I arrived last Wednesday 16th from Sydney to Manila. Grabbed a local sim and caught a coupon taxi from terminal 1 to Oxford Suites in P. Burgos St Makati. Traffic at 6pm was fair and only took 30 minutes to get to hotel. Taxi fare for the coupon taxi has now risen to 620php which will make me look for a different form next time. Checked in,luckily got an upgrade to top floor, showered and went to Cheers bar for a couple of beers. Just got there before 8pm so able to take advantage of happy hour prices (10am to 8pm local beer half price). Quite a few LBs freelance and massage around and I thought the quality very average and was a bit disappointed. Being extremely tired I called it a night at 11. Next day took it easy, wandered around the area, more hotels being built all over the place. Most of the bars in P. Burgos below Kalayaan Ave have al fresco areas to have a drink and watch the passing parade. In the evening I had dinner at Cheers and then went to an outdoor table at Cafe Cubana in the Royal Bellagio Hotel. They have a live band playing all the good old hits from 9pm Thurs & Tues and there was a fair crowd. The quality of the LBs on the street had improved dramatically, with a couple of absolute stunners further in the bar watching the band with their partners. As I was with a friend for that night who does not know of my predelection for LB, it was just a pleasant night drinking and flirting with a couple. Checked out of hotel and caught meter taxi to Victory Bus terminal in Pasay , where I got the bus to Dau for 150 php, traffic along EDSA was horrendous taking 90 minutes to get too NLEX. Finally arrived and hopped in a trike to Pacific Breeze hotel (reviewed previously by Stealth) cost 150 php same as bus. Checked into hotel jacuzzi room in Oahu wing, pleasant room, large shower, however,cold water clear but hot water took almost 10 minutes to arrive, and when it did it was rusty coloured for almost 10 minutes. (Subsequent showers hot was clear but still a long wait for any warmth). Lunched at Phillies mid afternoon and there were 2 LBs playing pool. They were unaccompanied so appears that some at least are allowed in as long as they keep buying something to drink or eat. Sunday was a late rise with breakfast in the hotel, fairly good breakfast menu with top price of 250 php with a coffee included in the meal for many items. I spent Saturday evening with an ex pat that I have known for a number of years, doing a couple of girly bars. During dinner my sore tooth became a loose sore tooth so I will confirm my temporary appointment with the dentist for tomorrow, Sunday was unusually quiet everywhere, was to meet Shantal again, however, that fell through during the course of the evening and none of the LBs on the street took my fancy so an early night was had. I have enjoyed my stay at Pacific Breeze Hotel, however, some things irked me. The room I was in is next door to the Housekeeping room and 9.15 every morning the maids would gather for a natter and a laugh before work. For the 10 days I was staying the maid did not wipe down shower walls and by this morning soap run marks were very evident. If you stay you will need to supply your own toothpaste, shampoo etc as only soap is supplied and a couple of times not!!! As it was a Jacuzzi I thought it a bit rich that they charge 65php to restock the little bubble bath tube. Oxford suites - you can ask at the front desk and they will give you as many wifi passwords as you like, but each one valid for 24 hours so you have to ask again the next day. Tea and coffee are available, but again you have to ask the room cleaners. Since I tip them every day, extra bits and pieces like this are always available. Floors above the half way mark have bum guns; lower floors do not (something to do with the water pressure and being an old - and somewhat tired - hotel). Some rooms have been upgraded, some haven't - always worth asking for an upgraded room. This is not the same as you being upgraded to a higher standard room but rooms ostensibly of the same level come as original or upgraded. Finally, if offered an upgrade to a junior suite, be aware that they are the curved rooms at the front of the hotel. Anything below floor 17 and you might as well be camping in P.Burgos in respect to the noise levels, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Post finally, the doorman called Jericho is a fixer with everything to do with the hotel and a lot outside. PI seems like a waste of time! Not your fault but seriously, this TR has just reinforced my opinion that Thailand is so much better and more fun! The LBs in the PI might speak better English, but they seem to be more reserved in the sex action! "condom BJ" ??? No thanks, LOS is so much more fun! In my experience, this is most unusual. I have never been asked for oral with condom. Most of them will initiate sex without condoms, not oral with and they react with amazement when they see my condom pack. As for Thailand being better, I enjoy both; provided you do your homework on Pinalove (sister website to Thaifriendly), the Philippines is a bundle of fun, although I would recommend checking on video before committing to see someone.
