Pdoggg
Bars will be closed July 30-31. Some might be open but not serving booze. Some might open at midnight July 31/Aug 1. Plan accordingly.

xyzzy
One can usually find the reason here if it's not caused by an election (do they have those anymore?) http://boomboomme.com/resources/holidays/thailand/index.htm
Pdoggg
Think enforcement will be even stricter than in previous years. Your paycheck will have to sit idle until the weekend hits, as it will be very difficult to buy any booze Thursday and Friday. Thursday and Friday mark the Buddhist holidays of Asanha Puja day and Buddhist Lent day. The government has formally designted Friday’s Buddhist Lent Day as the “National No Drinking Day.” Imagine if Thailand were to impose and enforce a widespread booze ban, this is what life would be like. Banks will be closed Thursday and forget about mailing anything as post offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. From midnight on Wednesday night until midnight on Friday night, alcohol sales will be strictly prohibited. The die-hards out there will need to stock up tomorrow evening. http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2015/07/28/happy-national-no-drinking-day
Pdoggg
Thursday is also a bank holiday. Not sure if government offices are open or not.
Skin2fan
The big Buddha 2 day dry event is annual and the dates shift year on year. Pattaya observes it, 555, but those in the know stock their fridges then go off to Koh Larn for each day. The island hasn't enough BiB to enforce the ban. Beer in tea mugs in many bars tonight.
