Action in Phnom Penh

Candy Bar in it's former location use to also be a guesthouse. But they have moved a short distance to an open air location and I think have no rooms. Think you will find most guesthouses are not located above girlie bars. I knew of a PP bar owner with four bars a couple of years ago. He had guesthouse rooms above one bar but had to relocate because the owner of the building raised his rent. In his new location he didn't have rooms as, at the time, it was difficult to get permission to have rooms that might be used as ST rooms above a hostess bar. All of the guest houses where I have stayed in PP are above a restaurant and/or bar that isn't a girlie bar. There are some exceptions like Rose Bar on 104  (if they still do) that has real rooms and I'm sure there are others.

There was an infamous hostess bar here a few years ago called M ikado (without the space). Some foreign guy that owned a porn web site got some secretly shot video of the girls performing in the attached hotel. He then used the video on his web site. It came to the attention of  the goverment. The place was shut down and the bar owner got a massive fine by Cambo standards. Then the place later reopened with a new name and got busted again. It is now an open air restaurant after significant modification to the building. Things have never quite been the same in PP since. On big GG boards like ISG all the details of activities are frequently not discussed openly when it comes to Cambo FWIW.

There is a bar in Golden Sorya named Wet Spot (of all things,,,). At about 11 PM last night there were three LBs there and no GGs. One of the LBs was the one KenW previously mentioned as well known. I'm too hung over to go search for her name. :search:  Later saw a couple of them in Pontoon including her. I actually danced to that trash music. I left Pontoon a bit before 4 AM very drunk. There was still one large-ish crowded bar going strong in Golden Sorya with a mix of some of those from Pontoon, Heart, etc as I staggered off about 4 AM.

I continue to be amazed at the ability of the human brain and associated nervous system to recuperate and recover.

Anyone who has been within a sniff of my most recent TR for PP will be well aware that I endured some grief (all over a LB as usual). I was very down during that trip - so my memory tells me - and for quite some time thereafter.

Last evening at GOTCIII dixon cox looked at me with his impish smile and made a comment to the effect that: wasn't that a great time we had in PP. Before I could actively think, my brain and mouth just coughed up a reply: yes, it was wonderful.

And it was. Or at least the time spent with dixon, the meals, the drinkies, the other LBs, all that stuff. As I was replying to dixon - and this all happened in about 2 nanoseconds - I was suddenly aware of what words I was using in my non-thought-out reply. I then consciously thought to myself: how bloody marvellous the brain is, allowing all those bad memories to fade to a lesser place.

Not be forgotten, but to take on much less importance now (cliche: time the best healer). While this is happening same said brain brings to the forefront warm good memories, that when triggered by something like dixon's comment, produce this really positive flow of emotion.

I find that fascinating and fabulous.

A reasonably safe bet for a monger's hotel is Flamingos just off Street 51 and very close to that action. I've never stayed there. Free pick-up from the airport too ~ http://www.flamingos.com.kh/

Another just off Street 51 is the Circuit Hotel. I've stayed there quite a bit in the past and it was fine ~ http://www.circuithotel.net/

Street 51 is about a 10 minute walk from the Riverside straight down 136 or an easy tuktuk ride for a $1.

Candy Bar on 136 does not have any guest rooms, only short time rooms.

Last time I was in PP I could not get laid and it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. :notfair:  I just found it difficult compared to LOS. Perhaps it requires a different approach unique to Cambodia.

DC, if I come for another visit you gotta promise to get me a date. If I strike out a second time I'll start taking it personally and we wouldn't want that, would we?!?
