While Thais aren't as pragmatic as some, still, compared to Western cultures, Thais take a pragmatic view of life. While I'm not one of those people that thinks Asian cultures in general -- or Thai culture in particular -- are the end all and be all of human civilization -- and there are plenty of things about Western culture I appreciate (more so now that I've been living here awhile) their pragmatism is one thing we would do well to emulate. Many of the girls, gg and lb that we see working in regular jobs are from the same region and social background as the ones on the game. Yet many have not succumbed to the easy option of selling their wears for big bucks. I even see some hotties sweating all day on building sites, hard manual labour, and they appear to have resisted the temptation of the game. I guess a lot of it is up to their upbringing, some will just not go that far for easy money and prefer to just get by, rather than cross a line in their minds. I am sure Pacman Azza33 has some interesting take on this. Firstly, easy option is probably not the best turn of phrase - but i do understand what you mean. As for why, i think its has a number of elements to it. Money, upbringing, personal morals, extreme family pressures, whether immediate family or extended "family" have partaken, greed, want for the latest gadgets, extreme poverty, limited or no education, minimal decent work opportunities (Issan in particular) and the limited ability to relocate to find work due to insufficient family money. Then there is the murky issue of those prostituted by family members & that becomes all that they know. Mix all or a combination of those and the line can be crossed. Some will stay a lifetime in the industry and others will quickly return to their family. The choice each girl makes is affected by her circumstances. Wealthy family, poor family, education, no education, etc, these obviously impact on the direction their life takes. But it is only a generalisation. I believe every girl in the world has a price for which she will "lower her standards". And the first time a good girl from Issan who may be studying at University with her family supporting her, is approached by a tourist & offered a large enough amount of money, she will be mighty tempted. And if she has been giving it away for free to the young bucks back home, it isn't a stretch to see how she could accept the offer without much regret. I see the "hotties" working on the building sites being very vulnerable to this approach. I have no doubt there are some, the popular legend of Nicky working on a building site before she was old enough to start on the game is a true story. So I am assured. I remember before the Asian currency crisis twenty years ago that the Thai economy was going so well that the girls of Patpong worked for tips with most of them being unavailable for short or long times. They didn't need the money. I was there several times a year for trade fairs & out of a group of 10 guys, most of them didn't get a sniff. A few years later & happy days were here again. Without labouring the obvious but nothing more demonstrated the girls disdain for sleeping with farangs than my experience back then. We like to think they do it because we really aren't that bad. Many single Romanian Girls in the EU, and there are a lot of them, travel to Northern Europe to work. After a few weeks cleaning some dudes mansion or cleaning dishes the good looking ones migrate to lap Dancing or the Game. I dont blame them one bit .
