Angeles City

Angeles City Flying Club:

http://www.angelesflying.com/

Ultralights: The Angeles City Flying Club is the oldest flying club in town. They have been operating a fleet of ultra light aircraft out of Mabiga (about 10 minutes north of Angeles City) for over 15 years. They offer rides over the lahar fields for as low as P1650, or full flight lessons.

Billiards/Darts: Pool tables can be found in most bars and hotels in town. There are very active 8-ball pool leagues and dart leagues in town and many establishments are looking for players. For pool teams, check with the management at your favorite hangout. Dart players should go see Jimmy D in the La Casa near the VFW.

VISIT THE MALLS: Shoe Mart (SM) mall is walking distance from Margarita Station or Fields Avenue. It has a variety of good stores, numerous restaurant and fast food outlets and a cinema. It also has full generator back up, so this is the place to be during brownouts if you are not floating in one of the hotel swimming pools. There are three other major shopping malls in Angeles that can be reached using local transportation or by renting a car for the afternoon.

The HASH: There is a very active HASH House Harrier group with weekly runs every Sunday. They leave from the The Anchorage Inn at 2:00 PM (for walkers/first timers) and 3:00 PM (for runners) The HASH'rs also have special runs on full moons and other special occasions.

You don't have to be a super star to have fun with this group. In fact most of the people each week just walk. If you can walk 3-4 miles (with some hills) you will get to see more of the Philippines in several hours than most tourists see on their whole vacation. Cost is P300 for guys and P100 for girls. This includes your drinks on the run and at the end. Don't wear good shoes because trails often go through small streams.

Daytrip to Corrigidor: This one takes a small group to make it affordable. You can leave Angeles about 8 AM, see historic Corregidor Island, and be back in Angeles for cocktails. Van, boat rental, and park fees about $130 for up to 5 or 6 people. For more info, CLICK HERE

Daytrips to the Beach: Subic is now only about 1 hour away on the SCTEX (Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway). Leave early in the morning, enjoy lunch on the beach and return in time for cocktails. Additionally, there are numerous activities here from Sea World to jet skiing. Or, do an overnight trip and explore the bars of Barrio Baretto and Subic City.

Angeles City

Golfing: There are currently nine golf courses within driving distance of Margarita Station. The Swagman Hotel runs trips to different golf courses almost every day. The Wild Orchid can also arrange golf outings. For more information, see our golfing page or contact the Balibago

But from all the sightseen that they have there i came for this special one ( The Track To The Pinatubo Vulcano )

The Sleeping Gaint Awakens

Mount Pinatubo

Location: Philippines

Latitude: 15.13 North1

Longitude: 120.35 East1

Height: 1,745 meters before the June 15, 1991 eruption and 1,485 meters (high point caldera rim) after2

(Height: 1,600 Meters1)

Type: Stratovolcano

In June 1991, after more than four centuries of slumber, Pinatubo Volcano in the Philippines erupted so violently that more than 5 billion cubic meters of ash and pyroclastic debris were ejected from its fiery bowels producing eruption columns 18 kilometers wide at the base and heights reaching up to 30 kilometers above the volcano’s vent.

In its wake 847 people lay dead, 184 injured, 23 missing, and more than 1 millon people displaced. Hundreds of millions of dollars in private properties and infrastructure lay in ruins which would require tens of billions of pesos and several years to rebuild. For months, the ejected volcanic materials remained suspended in the atmosphere where the winds dispersed them to envelope the earth, reaching as far as Russia and North America. This phenomenon caused the world’s temperature to fall by an average of 1 degree Celsius. Clearly, Pinatubo’s eruption signals the world’s most violent and destructive volcanic event of the 20th century.

Angeles City

The Same Gaint 21 Years Later - June 2012

Nowadays it's possible to travel to Mount Pinatubo. The best solution is to have a daytrip package from Manila or Angeles city / Clark. Our Pinatubo tour package includes a round trip transportation with A/C vans from Manila (or Angeles) to the base camp where climbers will be registered by a travel and tour operator at local tourism office. Both conservation and local guide fees are included in the package. Your Mt. Pinatubo tour will start with a 4X4 ride from the base camp to the jump-off. Your Pinatubo trek will be a 2 hour hike (one way) on rugged terrain with magnificent view of the canyons. It is usual for trekkers to have lunch at the shore of the Pinatubo crater lake. Feel free to swim in its blue-green water or take a boat to explore the other side of the Pinatubo crater

Preparing for your Pinatubo trek

  • Pack light. The regular Pinatubo trek will take around 2 hours via old way trail. Do yourself a favor and keep your bag light. Your back will thank you for it.
    • Love your skin. The best time to go trekking Pinatubo is during the dry season (From Mid-October to May) which means there will be a lot of sun. So slather on that sunscreen and use a cap or hat.
      • Sole keepin'. Mount Pinatubo's terrain is rugged so protect your feet by wearing sturdy foot wear. You'll surely get wet as well so bring an extra pair.
        • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. The trick on not getting a heat stroke is to drink BEFORE you even feel thirsty. You will be sweating a lot and hydrating is a sure way to battle fatigue. Bring at least 1.5 liter of water for the trek.
          • Fuel up. Making your own trail food is a fun and easy way to ensure that you have something to munch on while your hike the tricky terrain of Mt. Pinatubo. No need to go on a hunger strike there. Life is short. Eat.
            • Don't worry, be happy. Its not everyday that you get to commune with nature so don't rush - it's not a race. Appreciate the sight and sounds around you.
              • Leave no trace while trekking. You probably have heard of this one before but we'll say it again anyway. Take nothing but pictures; Leave nothing but footprints; Kill nothing but time.

              Mt. Pinatubo map

A Mount Pinatubo tour always starts with a 4X4 ride. Since the shortcut, also called skyway (red road on the Mt. Pinatubo map) is currently closed, all trekkers use the old way (yellow trail on the trekking map.) Your Mt. Pinatubo trek will last 2 to 2:30 hours (one way), ample time to capture the breathtaking canyon of the volcano. The trails ends on the shore of the crater lake where you can swim, relax or take the boat. On the way back, you will use the same trail and then ride again the 4x4 vehicle until you reach the base camp.

4WD is one of the highlights of this trip. The terrain itself and river crossings while watching the breathtaking creation will make you feel that you're in another era far from the hustling and bustling city life.

You can ask the driver to stop along the way for you to take some pictures.......

post-665-0-92923000-1348265368_thumb.jpg

The 4WD jump off point at the base of Mount Pinatubo. 1.5 hours walk usually starts here. These maybe longer or shorter depending upon your trekking speed. On the average, trekking time going up is more than 2 hours because most of use where taking pictures along the way. You can do some final touch here like applying sunblock, prepare your slippers, sun/rain protection. If you bring some trail food and drinks, it's better to take some here to lighten your bag and feed your hunger. This will keep you going smile.png

Prepare yourself for a very rough terrain ahead. Remember, you are conquering a volcano and it's a rule of a 'no pain-no gain' activity. This will make you realize the significance of Light Packing because believe me, you will feel the weight of your back pack after 30 minutes of trekking and it's no joke, the longer the trek, the heavier it becomes!

Sky Experience Adventure / Ziplines

The next step in bringing the “EXTREME” to modern day Zip Lines

You are about to experience the first urban zip line in the world that allows you to leave a building 473 feet in the air from the 2nd floor of The Sky Extreme Adventure and land on the roof of a different building 250 feet away. It is also the first zip line in the world to use this fully automatic braking system, allowing the rider to experience a smooth and controlled stop. This zip line is designed and built using the highest industry standards and has a double redundant system to insure the safety of all riders. The Tower Zip welcomes you as you step off the building into the sky for 8 of the most breath taking seconds of your life.

A Little History about Zip Lines:

The origin of the modern day Zip Line can be traced back to the early Tirolian and South Tirolian climbers in the late 19th and early 20th century. Climbers used ropes and other gear to navigate rock towers and divides, simply as a means to get from one place to the next. More than a century ago, villagers in high mountainous places, forestry departments, military and many others were developing ways to move goods, take care of environment, or insert troops into areas that just were not accessible other ways, at least not easily. Forestry scientists used this technology to move thru the tree tops to further studies. The US Navy in the late 1930’s had even developed Zip Lines from one ship to the other for replenishing goods while under way in order to stay out to sea for longer periods of time. The early 1970’s saw the greatest development for use when the rain and cloud forest canopies were the last remaining frontiers of botany, zoology, entomology and ecology. Ph.D. students Donald Perry and John Williams first strapped on their rock climbing harnesses, clicked their carabineers on to a belay line, and grabbed onto their jumars to ascend a tree instead of a granite face. The movie Medicine Man began filming and the researchers stumbled upon these treetop cable rides and incorporated them into a breath taking scene in that 1992 movie. From that point forward adventurers and enthusiasts have pushed the limits of excitement and challenge to create the rides we know, and you are about to experience today.

”Hang Higher”, Live the EXTREME!!

Things To Do When Your In Manila:

With not to much more time and free day`s on my hand because my vacation was coming to a end , there was still one sightseen tour i wanted to do before i left and that was a visit to the ( Taal Vulcano )

Taal volcano with its lake-filled 15x20 km wide Talisay (Taal) caldera is a beautiful caldera volcano, but also one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes of the Philippines. Taal has had some of the country's largest and deadliest eruptions: At least 6 eruptions during the recorded history of Taal since 1572 claimed fatalities, mostly from powerful pyroclastic flows, as well as tsunamis produced in the crater lake.

Background:

The Taal caldera is largely filled by Lake Taal, whose 267 sq km surface lies only 3 m above sea level. The maximum depth of the lake is 160 m, and contains several eruptive centers submerged beneath the lake. All historic eruptions took place from the 5-km-wide volcanic island in the northern-central part of the lake.

The island is formed by overlapping stratovolcanoes, cinder cones and tuff rings (maars). Historic eruptions have seen the constant change and growth of the island.

Taal caused one of the worst volcano disasters in history: its eruption in 1911 killed 1334 people and caused ash fall as far as Manila city. Due to its devastating potential, Taal was declared one of the "Decade Volcanoes" in the Decade Volcanoes program of the 1990s in order to incentive study and monitoring of the volcano. Taal is today one of the most closely monitored volcanoes in the region.

An increase in seismic activity under Taal was recorded in November 2006, followed by an increase in hot water springs in the crater in April 2007

2010 Unrest

Since 26th April 2010 volcanic earthquakes have increased. Between 11-24 May the temperature in the crater lake increased by 2-3 dec C. The composition of Main Crater Lake water has shown above normal values of Mg/Cl, SO4/Cl and Total Dissolved Solids. There has been ground steaming accompanied by hissing sounds on the northern and northeast sides of the main crater. PHIVOLCS has raised the status of the volcano to Alert Level 2, which indicates the volcano is undergoing magmatic intrusion which may lead to an eruption. The main crater has been placed off limits due to the risk of an eruption.

2011 Unrest

Taal volcano in the Philippines has been placed on level 2 alert in April 2011 due to an intrusion of Magma towards the surface. The temperature of the main crater lake has increased to 31.5 ded C. There has been a small inflation of the volcano. High levels of carbon dioxide have been released in the main crater and seismic activity is elevated. PHIVOLCS has advised the Main Crater, Daang Kastila Trail and Mt. Tabaro are closed to visitors due to the risk of explosion, and emission of toxic gas.
