Many airlines are trying to get passengers to accept restrictive travel vouchers instead of refunds. One airline has even instructed their first line of defense, their Chat agents to say refunds are not possible but if one insists on a case # a refund comes through. With Jetstar Asia the voucher must be entirely used on one booking and has. a time limit.

Got a mass email from Tony Fernandez, Air Asia CEO, with of lot of lovey dovey fluff before getting to the meat of things.

Quote

I know many of you have expressed frustration with not receiving a refund for your flights but I encourage you to accept a credit as a good alternative. More than 80 percent of you have accepted our credit offer and we truly appreciate this. Please know that our policy is in line with many operators in the travel industry and reflects our focus on coming out the other side of this difficult period and flying with you again as soon as possible. We have ensured that we adhere to all regulations and requirements of respective governments and consumer authorities and believe this is the best solution. You are among the over 600 million guests who have flown AirAsia and can’t wait to fly with you again once this is over.

While we strongly encourage you to accept the credit which is instant and comes with a 365-day validity and allows you to change your flight date for an unlimited number of times, we do accept requests for refund on a case by case basis. However, due to the overwhelming number of requests that we have received, it may take a long process of between 12 to 16 weeks.

Air fares are set to double according to the UK Daily Telegraph  ..14 April 2020  page 9...Social distancing rules will mean that the aircraft can only fly half full or whatever,...  i think 1 metre is the very minimum that scientists advise  and this is what they may use .. of course it may be more

It seems the new rules are being drafted now and will mean many wont be able to afford to fly

Economy is the new Business . Or so it seems

Emirates are testing passengers before boarding for Covid . it seems its a 10 minute results back swab test from memory. Some officials state that this may be statutory in future with all airlines.

Most likely mandatory surgical masks too,  then they don't have to have empty rows. The Canadian quick test is 15 minutes and costs around $30 Canadian dollars a test.

recent update

Delta Airlines and others have now blocked the middle seat off on all flights as well as other measures on upgrades and so on.Obvious going forward this is going to be a new normal.  you can bet on it.

Business class has subsidized the "back" , an airline term, for a long time and this era may come to a close as many Companies top nobs are not going anywhere any time soon according to some projections and so economy flights may double in price . Of course some are saying prices may drop but i doubt if  aircraft are forced to block off customer seats in future at least for the next 2 years ( i think for now its until July1 but new international standards maybe in force by then making new rules indefinate)

Also some airlines state you have to bring your own mask and you must wear it or you dont board

looks like a slew of new regs are coming

It looks like an investment company from the US may be aiming to pick up Virgin Australia. In talks with the administrators now apparently.

They are saying that if they are successful they will return it to the el cheapo style that it was in the beginning. We need more than one airline here. Qantas and Jetstar being one and the same really. Jetstar being the cheap model.

Whether it retains its connection with Singapore Air remains to be seen. For me that is a bonus as I like flying Singapore, and they connect in Melbourne or Sydney.

As an aside, it will be interesting to see what happens to airfares when the world starts flying again. On one side you have social distancing which means less seating, so lower numbers of paying customers, or less passsengers flying because they are put off by the virus thing and airlines have to cut prices to attract more people!.

Business people will want to fly but the tourist side might take some time to recover. Who knows?. Bet there are a lot of airline execs having sleepless nights.
