Loos like Bangkok taxi fares will remain at current levels:

No Taxi Fare Hike: Transport Minister

(6 September) Transport Minister Chatchart Sitthipan has denied any imminent increase of fares for metered taxi in Thailand.

Previously, a report has been circulated on the social network that a group of taxi business representatives have asked the Ministry of Transport for a fare hike, from 35 baht at the start to 50 baht, and aim to charge the passengers 100 baht instead of the current rate of 50 baht if they hail the cab from the airports.

Mr. Chatchart said the Ministry is not considering such increase, and would try to fix the current rate "as long as possible".

The minister also revealed his plan to establish taxi stops throughout Bangkok so that the drivers can park their cars and wait for the passengers, instead of having to drive around, burning fuel, in order to seek the passengers on the roads.

Around 40% of the taxis on the roads at any moment are running without passengers, Mr. Chatchart said. He told our correspondent he hopes that the new policy would help taxi drivers to cut fuel cost.

Meanwhile, the minister has ordered Department of Land Transport (DLT) to survey numbers of minivans running on inter-regional routes, which links between Bangkok and other regions.

Mr. Chatchart said that the research should allow the ministry to speculate real demands for each route.

"We must study if we have enough supply in response to the demand" said Mr. Chatchart, "if necessary, the ministry will arrange registration system to bring illegal vans into the system".

Mr. Chatchart has previously expressed his wish to curb on the unregistered public vans that often run in the route of licensed minivans.

Speaking of short time rooms there is a short tyme room in the first alley on the left side of soi 4 (not the driveway for Dynasty). This is the alley where Mango Bar, The Tavern, Jools Bar are located.

Open 24hrs a day. Not bad.

I eat in Jools and the Tavern on occasion. There are also some cheap hotels down that alley.

I think it's great! Hopefully people start going, cause sometimes it's slow. But If you barfine 7 ladyboys you would surely have enough to make your own party!

Thanks for the info. Cover charge? Drink prices? Just like to know what to expect.

The cover is 200 baht including a free drink. Drinks are around 160 to 200. The DJs are awesome. I find it hard not to dance!

Whats in the disco these days Rukki do thay still have the dancers i will be there in 4 weeks time( but im not counting down to the 9th.)

Yes they still have the dancers. And you can bring a LB from a go go, but not from the street cause they worry about pick pockets and other bad things. LBs can't go in on their own.

(18 September) The police have arrested a man who abducted a karaoke bar waitress from her workplace, much to the dismay of the patrons, to rape her at his room.

According to the witnesses, Mr. Somwang Ja-er, 23, and his male friend Mr. Yutthana Jenjaeng, 30, were drinking at the bar in Bangkok suburb in the early morning of 17 September. The pair reportedly attempted to flirt with the victim, a 16 year old waitress, who refused to respond to their gestures.

Suddenly, the patrons said, Mr. Yutthana and his friend got up and hauled the victim, who struggled in vain against the pair, onto their motorcycle, then drove away. Friends of the victims immediately mounted their motorbikes and gave a chase.

Later, the victim′s friend spotted Mr. Yutthana′s motorcycle in front of a flat building, so they proceeded to call the police. Once the 2 suspects saw the police arriving at the flat, they let go of the victim, and Mr. Somwang successfully escaped from the scene, leaving Mr. Yutthana to be arrested by the officers.

The police also uncovered a set of instrument for taking amphetamines.

Mr. Yutthana told police he knew Mr. Somwang from their time in prison, where they were jailed for narcotics crimes. Mr. Yutthana finished his jail term in April, while Mr. Somwang finished his in June.

The suspect said he and Mr. Somwang had been taking drugs earlier in the night and became sexually aroused. The pair wanted to find a prostitute, Mr. Yutthana said, but they had no money, so they attempted to convince the victim to sleep with them, and decided to abduct the victim once she refused.

A friend of the victim, who also works at the karaoke bar, informed the police that she had been also kidnapped and raped by Mr. Somwang, Mr. Yutthana, and a friend of theirs. She said she had been imprisoned in the room for a day.

According to the woman, she did not file charge against the suspects earlier because she was afraid she would be intimidated by them.

Items touted as aphrodisiacs, along with sex toys and possibly fake Viagra pills, were seized yesterday during two raids at Khlong Thom wholesale market and another area nearby.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which conducted the raid with the Department of Special Investigation, said it was checking if the aphrodisiacs contained any illicit drugs.

Five vendors selling the items were arrested and charged with selling drugs without permission and with selling obscene objects.

DSI agents said the pills being sold as Viagra were of low quality and could lead to heart attacks or death for those with chronic ailments or allergies, while the FDA agents said the purported aphrodisiacs had no labels with dosage or usage information, which could be a legal offence.

Vendors of sex toys and other goods were heard complaining about the seizures and the parading of the five suspects in the middle of a closed intersection. The raids prompted the operators of other stalls offering sex toys to shut down before DSI agents could approach them.

Glass walls will be erected along balconies and bridges around the departure terminal of Suvarnabhumi Airport to guard against suicide attempts or people accidentally falling to their deaths, after a spate of incidents in recent months, Airports of Thailand director Rawewan Netrakavesna said yesterday.

Three suicides or deaths had occurred at the airport over the past five months since she took office, Rawena said. The walls, which would cost Bt30 million through a special auction process, due to the urgency of the situation, would be erected at the departure terminal, which is on the fourth and top open floor of the airport building.

"The problem is being taken care of, because it has caused an image problem to Suvarnabhumi Airport," she explained.

The glass walls would be two metres high, and erected initially at walkways into the departure terminal, on the fourth floor which is connected to internal roads.

Most cases of suicide or suicide attempts were reported at Doors 7 to 10, which are located remotely to the west of the airport building. The latest incident involved a Western man who appeared intoxicated. Video clips of the incident were posted on social media.

There was also an incident in July 2011, cited in news reports, when a security guard burned himself and jumped off a balcony on the fourth floor to his death. The unidentified man was reported to have been stressed out from family problems and had been drinking before setting fire to himself, according to a police report.

According to unaccredited reports, there have been a total of five deaths, through either suicide or accidental falls, since the airport opened seven years ago, including two cases of foreigners falling to their deaths this year. An AOT source said the installation of glass walls was part of an ambitious plan to make Suvarnabhumi the world's top airport.

The installation should take five months, and should be completed by March next year.

A number of renovation works are underway, including expanding the departure terminal by relocating all ticket counters to the sixth floor, which would open up an extra 1,000 square metres of space.

A new two-storey building is being constructed to house luggage of transit passengers and a conveyor system, which will carry 66 luggage pieces a minute and reduce the time of luggage conveying from 75 minutes to 60 minutes. The new building, which has 12,079 square metres of space, is located between aircraft terminals C, D and E.

If you're looking to do something a little different......

Bored in Bangkok? Why not go watch a corpse get cut open?

In a truly odd effort to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Thailand's Institute of Forensic Medicine has invited the public to watch its autopsies.

Why?

As most of us are well aware forensic scientists typically work on dead bodies in a silent room, far far away from the rest us.While we may hear about the results of forensic examinations in news reports, most of us have little knowledge of the lengthy and brutal processes that takes place in that room.

Supichai Limsiwawongse, a forensic expert at the institute, said his team wanted to change this and allow people in to watch their work.

"We want to tell people what we are doing," he said.

Members of the public interested in observing the institute's work can get in contact with the institute and their requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, the Bangkok Post reported.

"I've examined so many dead bodies that I no longer feel surprised at the outcomes," Supichai said. "I'm aware this is a thankless job but I'm proud of being part of the country's justice process."

ATMs on Wireless Road Hacked Customers of several banks report withdrawals in Ukraine and RussiaTHERE HAVE been signs of ATMs being hacked in areas near the All Seasons Place on Wireless Road in Bangkok.

As many as 40 victims have come forward to say that money has either been withdrawn or transferred from their accounts to Ukraine and Russia.

"Up to 16 withdrawals from my account worth a total of Bt100,000 were made in Russia between Tuesday and Thursday [yesterday]," Mayurachat (surname withheld) said, adding that she did not understand what had happened.

"But I have already had my ATM card frozen," she said.

Victims began lodging complaints with the Lumpini Police Station, which oversees the area, on Wednesday.

"We have checked out the ATM machines in question, but found no skimmers of the sort we know about," Colonel Chaiya Kongsap, superintendent of the police station, said.

The ATM cards affected came from different banks and were hacked at different machines.

Pol Lt-Colonel Decha Promsuwan, an investigator at the Lumpini Police Station, has warned people against using ATMs in the area.

"The banks are still in the process of finding out how their customers' information was hacked," he said.

Pakamas Vidhidharm said she used a Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) ATM card to withdraw money from a Bangkok Bank ATM in the area on Monday.

"Soon after, SCB contacted me about a suspicious transaction. Someone had withdrawn Bt20,000 from my account in Kiev," she said, adding that her ATM card has been frozen since.

On Wednesday, she used a Bangkok Bank card to withdraw money from a Bank of Ayudhya ATM in the same area.

"In less than 10 minutes, Bangkok Bank contacted me saying some Bt10,000 had been transferred from my account to Kiev," Pakamas said.

Somchai Pichitsujarit of the Thai Bankers' Association said it was possible that some gangs might be using a micro camera to record users typing their pin number. He tried to allay concerns, by saying: "People can use their ATMs as usual. If any suspicious transaction is detected, banks will take immediate attention. Besides, banks are responsible for any damages caused by skimming."

A RESCUE worker has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape an unconscious woman he was entrusted to transport to a hospital, and who reportedly drowned herself after the attack.Witnesses said yesterday that |the victim was found dead in Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district shortly after screaming for help and complaining that she had been raped.

The suspect, Tawatchai sae Sim, 32, denied raping the woman, saying he had attempted to do so but let her go after she resisted.

"We're waiting for autopsy results," said Pol Colonel Korawat Hanpradit, superintendent of Bang Phli Police Station.

Besides sexual assault, Tawatchai has been charged with stealing the victim's rings, which he allegedly sold in order to buy methamphetamine.

Tawatchai worked for a rescue foundation, which was alerted on Monday morning about the victim passing out at a Foodland supermarket branch in Bangkok and needing medical treatment.

The branch's assistant manager called the victim's boyfriend before deciding to contact the foundation.

The boyfriend, a soldier, said he received the call at about 10am and rushed to Ramkhamhaeng Hospital where his girlfriend was supposed to have been sent.

"But I didn't find her. So I decided to go to the police," he said.

Security cameras showed Tawatchai driving a foundation vehicle to the Foodland branch to pick up the unconscious victim, who had been placed in a wheelchair. The store's staff helped her into the vehicle.

Recordings at the hospital showed the vehicle driving in, then speeding away without stopping.

The victim, 28, worked for a well-known real-estate company. According to Foodland staff, she spent the whole night at the 24-hour supermarket before fainting on Monday morning.

Sittichai Konyanee, 33, said he was driving a motorcycle with his wife along a road next to a canal in Bang Phli on Monday when he saw a pretty woman dash out of the shrubbery.

"She called for help. She said she was raped," he said.

He stopped and the woman immediately jumped on his motorbike between him and his wife.

"But after a short ride, she asked me to stop," he said.

When he, his wife and another witness went back to check on her, they found she was already dead with her face submerged under water.

A Danish tourist was robbed at knifepoint last night, after trying to hail a tuk tuk in Thailand.

The man, known only as Morten Krogsholm, called a tuk tuk near Sukhumvit Soi in order to go to the nearest train station around 3am, Scand Asia reported.

The tuk-tuk driver took the unsuspecting victim into a nearby alleyway and stopped the brake hard, causing Krogsholm to hit his head and become dizzy.

Two men then appeared and brandished knives at his throat and chest. The thieves then stole THB 10,000 in cash, his mobile and camera whilst leaving him on the road.

“I was really afraid, especially because one of them had a knife close to my throat, Mr Krogsholm said.

“Soi 25 is quite a crowded area with lots of bars and tourists, so needless to say, I was surprised and shocked.”

Mr Krogsholm is currently seeking compensation from his travel insurance company for the incident.

BKK Airport To Probe Toilet 'Spy Cam' Footage

(5 March) The authorities are investigating the reports that a female flight attendant has been filmed by a hidden camera as she relieved herself in Bangkok airport's toilet.

The footage, which was apparently taken without the flight attendant′s knowledge, is currently being circulated on a number of websites. The clip caption claimed it was taken at Don Muang International Airport in northern Bangkok.

Flg.Of. Chaturongkapon Sodmanee, Director of Don Muang Airport, said today that he has not received any official complaint about the video, but he has ordered an investigation into the matter on behalf of the flight attendant.

The investigation is expected to take up to one week, the director said.

The airport administration is also contacting the airline of the filmed flight attendant for further information.

Flg.Of. Chaturongkapon claimed he has not personally seen the video, but he gathered from his aides who watched it that the small camera appeared to be hidden in an air-freshening device installed in the airport toilets.

The devices were removed last month after the contract with the distributor company expired, Flg.Of. Chaturongkapon said.

"We will summon representatives of that company for discussion in order to determine whether the company is involved in the incident," Flg.Of. Chaturongkapon said, without naming the air-fresher company.

He stressed that the officials would resolve the matter as soon as possible, but warned that a thorough and detailed inquiry would likely take some time, as there are over 100 toilets in the airport facility.

The suspect who raped and killed the 13-year-old girl passenger on a southern train to Bangkok was escorted to Pranburi district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province early this morning to reenact the crime on the train.

The murder of the girl has saddened the military junta chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha who ordered relevant authorities to bring the murderer to trial immediately, and tighten security at all public transport services.

The murder also sparked public outcry on social media urging for death sentence and even  summary execution of the murderer.

Under tight police security guards  and  to avoid angry residents attacking him, the suspect Wanchai Saengkhao, a 22-year-old bed-sheet replacement employee of a company outsourced by the State Railway of Thailand, was taken on board the sleeper train at dawn  to reenact the crime which took about 45 minutes.

He said he drank beers and took drugs  with his colleagues first. As his sexual desire was aroused by alcohol, he went to the sleeper carriage, switched off the light and entered the bed where the girl was sleeping.

He said he bodily assaulted the girl, punched at her stomach until she fainted and started to rape her. As she regained consciousness, he punched her again until she fainted again. Afterwards, he dumped her body out of the window, as well as her clothes, and other belongings. But he kept her IPhone with him, he said.

He said he spent about an hour to commit the crime.

Police said they were also looking into the possibilities of more conspirators in the crime such as cooperation from his colleagues who might help to watch the entrance to the carriage.

Police said they were able to net Wanchai because he left his address with a cellphone shop after selling the stolen IPhone  from the girl to the shop for 2,000 baht.

Kwanchai was detained at Pranburi police station after finishing the crime.

Police said they would speed up the investigation and prosecute him in a month.
