Look at the revenue the gov will be losing!.

As an aside. When I was staying at the Grand Business Inn in Soi 11 BKK, thay have a restaurant which is nonsmoking but they also have an outdoor area attached which fronts the street and is a great place to sit and lb watch from the stools over looking the soi. Guess what, they allow smoking there, so 9 times out of 10 when I wanted to bird watch I was accompanied by some dude coughing his lungs out next to me. I did mention it a few times but a couple of these polluters said it is a free country!. Great logic!.

Nothing I could do about it. One of these polluters would wear a wifebeater singlet and looked the part. He did get the idea at least once and moved to the leeward end of the seating. To you non sailor boys, that means downwind.

That observation point did give me payback and I hooked up with a very nice lb. Not something that happens everyday. I may have already mentioned this already. Photo below.

it's about time the world moved on from this shitty drug.

tobacco is ok but cigarettes contain thousands of chemicals, the purpose of which is to have the small amounts of nicotine in tobacco easily absorb into the body which make it so addictive and deadly.

-highly addictive

-guaranteed health issues

-high probability of early death with extended use

-minimal benefit

what am I missing here?

The governments make millions from tobacco taxes.

But how much it cost in treatment of tobacco related health problems?

I quite agree and was going to add that, and then I thought no, in the US the patient pays for it through their marvelous insurance plans. Yes it does cost governments in those nasty nasty socialist sort of countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and countries in Scandinavia.

As always freedom to smoke is restricted but non smokers freedom not to be bothered and poisoned by smokers is improved.

Yes, in some countries, the government made calculations and found out that diseases related to tobacco costed so much compared to taxes on cigarettes. Quitting is not that difficult. The most important is to do it in a smoke free environment.

the calculation for government is also the cost of workers not able to work because of cigarette related illness.

insurance companies also have a lot of sway with government.

and ultimately there is a cost on the system when people use health care. Even in the US... those without insurance can get some treatment.

I agree that freedom to chose is extremely important so I support that freedom. But with a ban..... I feel like it's good riddance. The only thing to smoke is cock.

They are doing this to meet carbon emissions goals.  They are also banning gas stoves for the same reason.  Although It is still in the discussion talks, but will be revealed in the next couple of months, there are going to outlaw farting, to reduce methane gasses contributions to cardon emissions green gases.  I for 1 support the green over brown.

As high as they're taxed in Aus/NZ I think smokers more than pay for all the health care we need in later life.

The thing I hate about my smoking - the damn cost of it. Worked out recently that if I didn't smoke I'd save about 6,000AUD a year ... that's easily a bloody trip to TH every year! Grrr!

Last night, I watched a programm dealing with Singapore. Over there, smoking is prohibited and even selling cigarettes is prohibited. It's also prohibited to chew gums or to spit in public places.

I remember a very pleasant city to live in. That's a real freedom for non-smokers and 99 % of the population is.
