I recently extended my 60 day tourist visa for 30 days and learned there is apparently a new rule/paperwork requirement for getting a 30 day extension on a tourist visa. You must bring documentation from the hotel/guesthouse where you are staying in order to be granted the visa extension. I went to the Thai immigration office in Jomtien Thursday with my passport but no documentation from my guesthouse and was turned away. Fook! Had to go back Friday to get my extension. What was frustrating is that they didn't even appear to read the fooking document I brought from my guesthouse. Argh!!!

Good news for anyone who has a Star Alliance Gold (or higher) status with their frequent flyer program. You can check in at the Star Alliance Gold counter (rows B10-14) for the past few years, and then go around to the back of Row A, and use the VIP security and immigration counters. This is a great way to avoid the long line ups at the regular counters. I only discovered this on my latest trip to LOS. Unfortunately I don't think this applies to entry yet, but they have gotten quite efficient at processing the big line-ups on entry.
