  1. For food I'd say go to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST), as it has a great choice of restaurants, much cheaper than Central has. 3 course Set Lunches in pubs and mid-range eateries there are only 8 to 10 USD during weekdays. Good bars there as well. Go to Yau Mau Tai and Mongkok at night for shopping - Temple Street Market, for example Try Sham Shui Po too, it has loads of copy and legit computer stuff in the Golden Shopping Centre, just outside the MTR station. Drinking and eating there are as cheap as chips, complete with a sleazy ambiance as it is a bit of a red light district. If you need a girl, check the Miss148 or 161sex websites - they have the pics, addresses and prices of hundreds of hookers all over HK. For example, a pretty young Thai hooker in an apartment in Sham Shui Po will cost about 35 - 40 USD all-in for a half hour of sex. Chinese girls are often slightly more expensive. While in HK get an Octopus Card at any MTR station, you can use it to pay on all the public transport, 7-11s, McDonald's, in fact most shops, saving a lot of hastle. For sightseeing I'd just go on the MTR, head to the New Territories and get of at random stations. Look around, it's a whole other world. Or, head to the outlying islands such a Lamma or Peng Chau - you can get a ferry from the outlying islands ferry pier in Central.

  3. I live in Hong Kong, and it's a lot cheaper than UK cities for many things (eg taxis). Dining, boozing and whoremongering can be cheap too, if you know where to go. But, if you go to Lan Kwai Fong and Wanchai as suggested above, expect to pay high prices, as these locations are for tourists, rich locals, or businessmen with generous expense accounts.

  5. Bloody hell DT, you like Queensryche as well? Great stuff, I didn't think anyone on here would also be a fan!!!!
  6. Lez Miz, Miss Saigon, JC Superstar, Little Shop Of Horrors, Rocky Horror, Hair, etc, all brilliant works in my oppinion. I also love many of the rock operas and concept albums from the likes of The Who, Queensryche, ELO, Pink Floyd and Rush. I'd love to see what the American Idiot production is like, because I think it's one of the best rock albums of the last 20 years.

  10. Hound's right, I reckon none of us go to Thailand for the stimulating conversation with the wonderful locals, nor the beaches, temples or other tourist attractions. Though still working in Hong Kong, I've lived in Mainland China the last 4 years. I went with no preconceptions of Mainland Chinese people, but have developed a deep loathing and contempt for them, based on the disgusting, ignorant and filthy behavior that I've witnessed first hand. But I'm still here, probably for the same primary reason that almost every male visits Thailand for - cheap and abundantly available sex.
  11. Yep, all those additional charges Air Asia bury out-of-sight when you're booking online are a right royal pain in the arse. Still, they've got some nice looking birds as flight attendants. Gives you something to look at during your flight while you're contemplating whether or not to pay well over the odds for a piss-poor cup of coffee and a tepid bowl of noodles.
  12. I got a nice price, and fly to Bangers tomorrow night Lovely slanty-eyed angels, Air Asia are!
  13. Hong Kong. I got back to my flat after work, late in the evening, and switched on the telly (there were only 2 English channels then)to be faced with the flaming towers on screen. I thought it must be a movie, but it kept cutting back to the HK studio's anchorman, who was visably shaken, and it dawned on me that this was real. The anchor was an American Chinese guy, and he really struggled with his emotions as he provided commentry to the events unfolding on screen.
  14. Thanks for the heads up. I just checked the website, and return flights from Hong Kong are about 800 HKD, totalling less than 1400 once all the taxes, surcharges and other fees have been added. That's just about 110 Quid, so I'm highly tempted to pop over there for a short stay in a fortnight or so.
