Is Bell still there at Zaza, can anybody confirm please?

    Thank you!

I was chatting with Dao today, and she said "Bell has just come back". I have not been to Pattaya for some time, but Zaza was generally a good place to stop by.

I know his passing only affected a small number on this forum but those that were including Cobber 32, Bumblebee etc., think the way I do. Not too many blokes like Brett unfortunately. What's that old saying," the good ones go first".

Yes, the English language isn't always clear. Brett was one in a million, and I miss him. A great friend.

Unless you want to stay in a high end hotel, you can rent a room at the Canterburry tales Café in soi Chayapoon near soi Buakkhao. Prices are fairly cheap and you get your room without control of the owner, so you can invite as many guests as you want.

Canterbury Tales has moved to a new location - no longer in soi Chaiyapoon - but there are plenty of cheaper places about with no restrictions.

  5. Thanks PD. Great (at the time it came out). Of course, quite unacceptable in today's culture, but one can't change history. And l repeat, what Rolf Harris was, and did, doesn't mean his talent can't be still appreciated.

Well it's finally happened Rolf Harris is passed on and will be heading to Hell and if you are of a certain age you unfortunate to remember 'two little boy's '

Please don't post the video of 2 little boy's , and LF you do please show the Sinead O'Connor version instead

Well, l am of "a certain age", and what Rolf Harris was does not change the songs he made. Two Little Boys, and Tie Me Kangaroo Down, among others, were great at the time.

I am disgusted that something like this should happen. Free speech is all very well, but to make a protest in such a way shows no respect for a great man. And in the interview I could've leapt through the tv and punched the young bloke. I'm absolutely fuming. I almost wish you hadn't posted it, but I'm glad you did - if only to show a glimpse of what we can expect more of. Lost for words now.

  10. I've got an issue with this "non-binary" stuff. In Australia a women's football (Australian Rules) or AFLW competition has been established. How can a "non-binary" person be allowed to play for a women's team? Or on match day do "they" suddenly identify as a woman? And on the way home, "they" need to go to the toilet. Which one do "they" use? And then "they" are offended when people address "them" as "she" ...... "I'm non-binary" ..... how the fuck does one know, when "they" look female?

I accept I've become old and crabby, but geez, life is hard enough without all this stuff.

Fucking hell.. 10 years ago I cringed when I had exchange at 29, closer to 28.

    10 grand too.

As it turned out.. I moved back stateside and still have like 70k baht left over from that transaction with the last king's pictures on it. Hopefully that money is still good!

Every couple of weeks l get money out at my ATM. Yesterday there were a few of the old notes in with mostly new. The former king is still held in such high esteem that l doubt there is any rush to cancel the old notes. As has been said, a slow process to weed them out is all that is likely to happen - for now anyway.

So much for preserving the memory of your m8.

I'll just say this. There is more to life than posting on any forum. You don't know what has been happening in private. Brett's memory is being preserved through the efforts of friends and family

...  or in other words:  who is more likely to pay for pick-up trucks and for building houses in Issaan in the name of Thai lovers ?

This thread is a spin off from another I started where I argue it's a no-brainer that higher income, more educated expats are preferable to those coming to Thailand to make the most of their bare minimum pensions or hustling locally whatever they can do to stay above the waterline and keep pulling Thai pussy...

But then I thought:  WAIT A MINUTE!  The big money to be made from the farangs is not on day-to-day living expenses, but from getting them to blow their savings, their inheritances or borrow heavily to purchase big ticket items...

The proverbial "House in Issaan" immediately comes to mind.   We all have heard the stories of the farangs in love who proudly built houses in the teerak's hometown and in their name and those stories always end the same way.  I once met one such BKK farang who was actualy forcing himself to live under 1000 baht a day (rent and utilities included) so he could finish building the house faster...

The prospective higher income expats with VIP visas being more educated and presumably less sex-focused will perhaps be less likely to fall for the Issaan rural fantasy ...  so no more lottery jackpots for the teeraks ???

I would like to know what BMs on the ground observed and think in this regard?   Perhaps the Thais better not mess with the current system of tight but willing farang cash cows that are proven ATMs for the Issaan natives...

Your post is very cynical, and generalises things you do not know first hand. I for one am living a far better life in Thailand than if I was still in my own country. We all have to live somewhere, and building a house here, where i am happy, has worked out well (for me). "Stories always end the same way ..." well, I've lived here 12 years and counting.

I would not tell you what to post, or to think, but in betting terms you seem to want a dollar each way, and throw in a second bet for the quinella.

I also agree with Quietguy's stat of 15,000 quid or thereabouts and that's precisely the sort of retiree pensioner Thailand intends to get rid off to upgrade itself as an expat destination.   Let's face it:  such low-income expats are actually lossmakers from Thailand's point of view as they use public services (roads, security, other govt services) without paying income taxes.

So, I am one of these blokes to be got rid of, I guess. I'm no millionaire, but over the 12 years I've lived here I've put around 50,000 baht a month into the local economy. And some of it is very local, not all to the hi-so companies, but rather to local markets and tradespeople. And tax is taken from the bank interest I earn as well. Right now I think Thailand would be happy, financially speaking, to have blokes like us living here. By the time the country finds it's feet again I will probably have gone in the local temple crematorium, thereby contibuting again to the local economy on my way out.
