  1. Time for a quick update: Sponsors - we have nearly met the target but there is still room if you want to Sponsor a bar Donations - any amount is welcome Tickets are now physically on sale in Pattaya: BabyBoom Kings 2 Bar LaBamba Sensations Stringfellows TJs There is a choice: 1) Pay the bar and collect your actual ticket now 2) Pay the bar and they will 'hold' your actual ticket The hotel will need each of the 2 entry portions of the tickets - 1 for the Volley Ball and 1 for the evening Gala/Cabaret - see image. No ticket will mean no entry - so if you are concerned about mislaying your ticket the bar will hold it until just before the event. You can reserve a ticket now, and a ticket number will be assigned, by paying via PayPal to: LBWVB@Hotmail.com or Bank Transfer Kasikorn Bank 546-210730-9 Bank SWIFT code KASITHBK Account name Mr R A Sales I only have 25 available as the bars listed above have the majority. If you buy a ticket direct, and not from a bar, I will post collection arrangements nearer the time. The same applies to all the Sponsors attending who have already been assigned their non-transferable complimentary ticket.
  2. I think the old adage "Familiarity Breeds Contempt" is apt. When it was all new that was precisely it - it was new to me. A new experience. A new social circle. All New. Like anything in life the first adventure is the memorable one. It is difficult to keep repeating or besting it. I do not wish to sound like an 'old timer' but many of the new breed of mongers seem to lack the adventurous spirit. There were no LB Bar Maps, GPS coordinates. It was a case of seek and ye shall find. It was more fun that way. Somebody (a fellow BM) would mention a new discovery and off we went. Very few bars sold their wares on the internet. Franck of Club 131 was probably the first to do so.- in some ways his downfall. He over exposed his staff and was a bit too open about his relations with all of them! Now the market is covered (or should I say exposed) much more openly. We did not ask "Where is Guess Bar", "Where is Action Street" - we went and found it. We did not ask "Does she top", "How big is her cock" - we went and found out Some guys just seem to want to pre-plan everything. They are missing out on the real fun of the adventure. I still enjoy the scene in Pattaya and am always pleased to bump into some familiar faces - both LBs and BMs. I still get a kick out of finding another small bar - El Rio behind Cherries Restaurant on 3rd Road
  3. 23 Sponsors paid in and 10 Pledges. 22 Tickets allocated. Hotel booked and deposit paid, Teams signed up and team colours selected - i have the pleasure of having to go shop for 40 Bikinis. Printing is in progress for Posters and Tickets - see attached 1st poster - size A2. This will be displayed in participating bars and other venues. There are 3 styles of poster this year which will be released later on - the artwork was created by some of our fellow BMs. If you want a Hotel room actually overlooking the event - you still need to buy a ticket Corona Wing - 2nd Floor - South Facing The F&B Manager (Food and Beverage) is called Joe Salangam. Both Joe and Areca Lodge have been incredibly supportive for our Event. Agoda may quote a cheaper price but this may NOT be for the Corona Wing and will NOT guarantee Pool view. joe.salangam2519@gmail.com When booking through him Email with: Subject - LBWVB 26th Oct - Corona Reservation dates Room type - Corona Wing, 2nd Floor, Overlooking Pool
  4. He should fly cargo. I remember reading that Pavarotti always had to book 2 seats in 1st Class. He was only a Tenor - this guy is a Double Bass
  5. Thought you may like to see how the funds raised were used by the nominated Charities. Rotary Club Eastern Seaboard installed the water filtration systems in one village nominated. Chosen village near Sakon Nakhon I am looking forward to 2013 raising even more for Charity. Thanks for all the support last year.
  6. Not sure that Nok knew or not but there is a big party at Sensations on Saturday 23rd. By all accounts it will be a big gathering which means La Bamba and Stringfellows may have a quite night. Any chance to shift party to Sunday 24th. I know a lot of guys committed to Sensations as it is a BMs 50th - well promoted on other sites. I would hate to see the Golden Girls put a lot of effort in when many customers will be elsewhere.

Last year everyone had a great day out which was agreed to be excellent value. There will be 8 teams of LBs competing for this coveted award Last year the event raised 285,000 Baht - 225,000 Baht was given to Charity on the day. There is 60,000 Baht carried forward to this year. You can support by: * Donate - money or a special item for the auction. 9. I was in there on 30th Jan and all was normal 8 LBs but few customers. I also heard that the bar was 'dark' this last week on one evening. My guess is that they did not pay their electric bill. The power company is quick to disconnect here - you get your bill around 18th of the Month and have 7 days to pay. How do I know? Because when I moved here I did not know how the system worked - I was cut off until I went and paid. Payment is easy - 711, TescoLotus, Bank - you present the bar-coded bill and pay - they charge up to 10 baht to do this. Maybe nobody took responsibility for the bill so it was overlooked. Power was on when I visited on 30th Jan. I will be disappointed if it is closed as it was a bar with promise. It takes time and effort to establish a bar and it was getting there.
  10. Try Facebook as they are more likely to read that.
  11. Remember when NangFah was promoted? Prior to Mastorbator setting up Nang Fah the venue was a Swingers Club - I wonder if the same place? NOT the same Dutch Guy
  12. Kahuna I agree that it would not be in Sam's nature but it was just how Nok thought about things - she can be a bit of a worrier. She saw TV, Fridge, A/C units, Bar, HiFi, Security as all big ticket items that were possibly not hers. Look forward to seeing you in the Legless La Bamba - we can go Google the Noodle.....
  13. Nice to see that La Bamba has a more permanent Fairy Godfather......... I really hope that the recent move to a venue, that includes rooms for rent, will be a new start for the La Bamba team I personally have always had a soft spot for the bar and still reckon that it is one of the best run and friendly lounge bars in town. When Frank started 131, with Sam, the intent was a smaller copy of Guess bar. When Frank left Sam was caught short - he discovered he owned very little for his investment. I did the audit. Frank could sell snow to Eskimos. The decision was made to start fresh - La Bamba was born. Sam had some interesting experiences. Previous partner stripped the bar and took off. Only a police notice, barring her from the premises, and a 1 month closure enabled Sam to reopen. She held the various licenses but, fortunately, no the lease. Nok now became the licensee, mamasan and cashier. Sam gradually lost interest in the bar and basically went silent. He just stopped communicating. 5 months of accounts were unpaid and the bank book could not be renewed as it was in Sam's name. After 3 years Nok had a choice - take over Sam's expiring lease or quit. She carried on with much encouragement from Ciobha and so many others. Her concern was that Sam could reappear at any time and reclaim fixtures and fittings. Nok needed someone to share some of the responsiblity and help her. Annie joined the team. Annie is a tough cookie with a level head and has known Nok (and Nancy) for years. She is a huge calming influence and a bastion of support to Nok - like a big sister. November 2012 dealt an even more cruel blow - the landlord wanted a 67% increase in rent and further key money. LaBamba was on the brink of needing to close - no cashflow and an exorbitant rent. A miracle occured as then an alternative venue in the same Soi was found. Nok has been through a tough period never knowing what her future may hold. Now the move finally breaks any ties, with the past, and she can look forward to operating her own bar and Guest House. Nok and her staff have a unique opportunity - many bars are struggling with shorter High Season and lower, slower Low season so any new stream of income is a huge bonus. Most Thai operated bars have poor visibilty on the Forums as the Thai operators seem incapable of updating forums. Having 4.17 to help promote is fantastic. In the past they relied on their customers and 'friends' to post on their behalf. I wish LaBamba, Nok, Annie and all her team all the success that they really do really deserve.
  14. I have been with Kasikorn bank for 8 years. Great service ATM card is normally 250 Baht per annum - it is a debit card and not a credit card If making a cheque deposit you can only do so at your specific branch The Exchange rate on Bank to Bank transfers is always better If on a retirement visa ONLY a Savings account is valid for funds NOT Investment - that mistake cost me 15,000 Baht You can set the daily limit on your ATM - up to you. Kasikorn seems to have the most ATMs If you use an ATM outside your 'home' city then there is a 20 Baht fee KrungSri ATMs waive the fee on their ATMs You need a passport and Address in Thailand to open an account and you must do so in person. Banks do not send out statements - you have a bank book which you can update via an ATM with that option
  15. The new bar is a knock out - the staff did a fantastic job and deserve to do well. Official opening 31st December Now it is a guest house with separate access they have a new income potential. I think what makes it different is that the bar/building is their home so they care about it. Just hope they can restrain themselves from cluttering up the bar. It now has a fresh clean look to it and looks great.
  16. Happy New Year - what a way to start. Welcome to the new web site dedicated to all the teams, in the LB Water Volley Ball Event - 2012. www.lbwvb.com Why have a separate site? The only way for the contestants/bars, to see their photos, would be to have allowed them access to the Forum. A big No, No. There were 3 professional photographers, at the event. who freely provided their services and took more than 1000 Photos. Editing and discarding reduced the final count to about 450 photos - that is still about 100 per hour. We also hope to add a short video, of the actual action, from the matches in the near future - 3.5 hours needs some major editing. Unfortunately one photographer was arrested, shortly afterwards, for a crime totally unrelated to the event. This site is NOT a Forum it is a public domain site. You can, however, leave comments. Please take some time to review News & Updates and comments about the success of 2012. The site is a 'Viewing Gallery', for each participating bar, providing many photos from the 2012 event. It also provides plans for 2013 - tentatively booked for Saturday 26th October, at Areca Lodge, in Soi Diana. The focus of the site is on the charity aspect of the event and the participants. In 2013 it is planned to increase the number of tickets for sale but the event can only achieve its goal by having: * Team sponsors * Ticket sales * Donations * Items for the Auction 7 Tickets have already been reserved and numerous BMs have also offered sponsorship. The site already contains many comments, from attendees, about 2012 and other background informative data. As plans for 2013 develop there will be more information about how you can help and which charities will benefit. There may also be a 2014 Calendar on sale with photos from 2012 and 2013. All this has only been possible due to the success of 2012 - many of you supported the bars and their staff made it happen. here was some doubt, early on, as to whether the 2012 event would deliver - it did. You, and they, raised 285,000 Baht for Charity - the goal for 2013 is 500,000 Baht. Hope you enjoy all the photos and many thanks to all those (you) that provided their help and support - many unsung heroes. Thanks to this forum and all their supporters.
  17. It is very easy to become jaded and fed up with the LB scene and Thailand BUT If you monger 365 days 24 x 7 then like anything else boredom will inevitably set in. Most residents learn quickly to ration their mongering and enjoy life. Over indulgence always leads to disdain. Living in Thailand requires huge adaptation, by the individual, and a lot of patience - most of us do not speak Thai and that is a massive barrier. I often ask guys why, when they live here, they moan about so many things - generally they are just letting off frustration. When asked would they move back to from whence they came the answer is an emphatic no. We moved here because Thailand is Thailand - if I wanted to live in a cotton wool, poltically correct, Nanny State then I should live in the West. Thailand is not for the feint hearted and is sure is not like the West. Enjoy the journey and vive le difference
  18. Enjoyed my visit to the bar on one of my rare trips to Bangkok. Great comfortable bar with sensible prices for Bangkok. Have a great 2013
  19. Hope I get a surprise in my stocking! Will be having Christmas Dinner in Pattaya so will be checking in on La Bamba too. They got the new floor down yesterday so hopefully painting will start and then commence the actual move. Fish tanks, Furniture, Plants first and then the stock/fridge and finally the staff. One observation is that, when Thais put their mind to something, they are terrific workers - personal experience as well as the La Bamba relocation.
  20. All the electrics and infratructure are finished. I watched Nok and Nancy help install all the new lighting last night. They are laying the new floor today prior to painting. They have also nearly finished re-decorating the guest rooms. As of last night they say that they will be open on 25th December - could be a second coming. Star in the east and all that. Officially they must move out of the current location by 28th December. The opening party will be 31st December. Initially I thought that was crazy but now I think it is a good idea. They have worked incredibly hard and yet kept the existing bar open. The work crew are working 24x7 - terrific guys - all relatives. What I have noticed is a real change in attitude. This is their place, business and new home. They are really proud of their move. They are talking about different ideas to be different but they will maintain the 'lounge' bar feel of the place. A surprising number of customers have been giving great advice and ideas to help them maximize their potential - brilliant. There is now a discussion as to whether there is room for a pool table which would be great. The Soi also has some new businesses opening - an Indian Curry House as well. I will get some pics when I can and also clarify the Tariff and booking process.
  21. Spoke to Pook last night. Big Party on 15th Dec - Pook Swan
  22. I have 3.5 Hours of Video. It was all shot from one location and needs a great deal of editing - there may be about 10/12 minutes of reasonable footage after editing out BMs and uninteresting video. It is a big job needing a decent editor both human and software. I am working on a possible solution where someone professional can edit but it will be some while.
  23. Probably playing Scrabble and arguing over the US, versus UK, spelling of a word.....
