  1. It is a really beautiful place to visit, albeit basics were hard to come by when I was there. When one is used to the easy access to things we take for granted in Thailand ie convenience stores, transport options, free toilets in venues etc it can be a bit of a shock at first. The amount of times people tried to hit us for $1 for the key to open a toilet door, carry our basket in a shop and so on was a pain. But no doubt if it opens up more these inconveniences may diminish with more money in circulation. On the positive side a bottle of Bacardi was only €3 in a night club, way too expensive for most locals. It was easy to make friends by buying cheap rounds all evening and practise our limited Spanish.

  8. Nope, same Bar, same management and same seating. I have to say Poppy bar was a lot more appealing, especially for those nights sitting outside sipping a few cold beers, Poppy had good comfortable seats and a custom built outside area. I believe Nok was made an offer she couldn't refuse to move back across the street, so grabbed it with both hands.

  9. The Bumbar girls are heading back home. Yes, they are now moving back across the street to the La Bamba location, and vacating Poppy Bar. Party on Tuesday night to celebrate their return.

  10. Yes when I was up in the village, only my girl, a gay lad (who died) and one other Yank spoke English - well I not sure about the Yank!!!!!! I felt embarassed and sad that I could not talk to Palmmy's very disabled grandmother or her friends. But as you get older your brain can only cope with so much. My dad spoke 6 languages he said it was like being able to play music you either could or you could not. I never really cracked any language so no hope with Thai, tired Welsh started and gave up when I realised how easy it made French and German look. So will have hope that when I go to ,my friend will do all the talking and expect I will do all the paying. Keep safe all of you

  11. What makes it hard for me is that up here they speak a combination of Thai and Lao , I am starting to understand Thai now but am way off having a conversion and would really like to chat to Dao's Mum, Dad and her 90 year old Grandad ( out of respect ) , the stories her grandad must have back in the day and all his farming tips he could share. .

  12. This guy isn't your typical Pattaya expat in a Singha-wifebeater and cargo shorts in Soi Buakhow obviously, he's got his head screwed on right. I like his method to visualise images in his head while learning words. Pom yak pood pas-sat Thai. Pom- slang for brits ,Yak- the animal, pood-Putin, pas-sat- VW car model , Thai -self explanatory.
