  1. I agree BB. First time back in many a year. I confess I thought the site was dying due to lack of new content and persevered with LBPatts instead. My mistake and my lossbut reading this thread takes me back. I stayed in touch with Uncle Ken through FB until recently but he seems to have vanished there too. I did venture back here recently to see if he was still around but apparently not. The reason I joined here along with him was because he had a run in with some people on LBPatts and in solidarity I joined up here. There was and are some real stirrers on that site and I think I've gone close to being banned for some tart rejoinders. It took a little while to work out why my responses or debate arguments were being culled mostly due to the Trump cultists and right wing people. LCD types in my opinion. Let's see if I get trolled here. Join the far queue, chasps!

  2. My lifestyle has somewhat got better as it happens. In August I went to Gumbet(Turkey) for 12 nights, its a country I would have never considered going to if my Spanish holiday had not had to be cancelled. I liked it that much that I am now due to fly out again (two weeks today) for another 12 nights. I have also booked a 4 night City break in Krakow (Poland) in November. So life ain't that bad and travel is still possible, even with this damm Virus.

  6. Sydney, Straya Late posting - was living in Patts for past 10 years, off and on. No super or much savings but a steady income stream from property (shops & suites). Of course the arse fell out of that just after I came home for usual time with kids. Then I needed bypasses, again! Had that earlier this year and that cost even with good health cover. So, all hollow logs now emptied and in hock to family too mutt!. How can this happen, I thinks to meself? Now I understand what parents went through in the Depression. Tried to get on the pension online - what a fucking trial that was. Dealt with some robot "how can I help you?". responded with foul language over a month of trying. Stupid thing kept telling me my Tax File Number was "not your tax file number" for starters. Finally got onto a human being at Tax office who had a look and then pointed out I had changed my residential address from adjacent property I owned to next door, i.e. from 9/xxxxx to 10/xxxx fucking thing. Robots are fucking dunces! After that I gets to assets & the robot dunce says I need to file company shit, e.g., balance sheet! (That's where my income came from a partnership every year). If you don't have one then fuck off & starve! My accountant told me I don't file such things cos it's a simple division of income between me & the kids. Try telling that to a fucking computer! The fuckwit who designed the 40 page form needs a fucking bullet in the head! Couldn't go down to the closest pension office because the queues are miles long and COVID-19 was rampant. Shove your fucking pension up your arse, Minister Roberts and your sneering P.M. can then recycle it through his too! Wait! There's more but I'm too stressed to continue. Will visit the DEPARTMENT in the next few weeks - those bastards are going to get an earful!!!!!! p.s. We need a bloke like the Pom's have got as per comment before mine.

  7. Sweden spared European surge as coronavirus infections stay low While many European countries are seeing new cases surge to levels not seen since the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Sweden – whose light-touch approach has made it an international outlier – has one of the continent’s lowest infection rates. The government said on Tuesday it was lifting its ban on visits to care homes for the first time in months from October. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/15/sweden-records-its-fewest-daily-covid-19-cases-since-march Can't help feeling grateful and proud of my home country.

  8. Authorities in Cambodia have arrested a second rapper on charges of “incitement” in days, a court official in the country’s Siem Reap province said Tuesday, after he released songs suggesting that Prime Minister Hun Sen’s lack of leadership had led to economic decline. Long Puthera, who penned the track “Wipe Your Tears and Continue Your Journey, Khmer Eyes,” was arrested “late last week” and jailed on charges of “incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” under Article 495 of Cambodia’s Penal Code, Siem Reap Provincial Court spokesperson Chhuon Sopanha told RFA’s Khmer Service. “The judge ordered him detained on charges of incitement,” he said. “The accused has the right to an attorney.” The rapper had regularly posted songs on his YouTube page under the name Thxera-Kampuchea and had thousands of followers. Long Puthera’s acquaintances told RFA that they had been unable to contact his family members since his arrest, as they live in a different province. The young musician is also friends with fellow rapper Kea Sokun, known for his song “Khmer Land,” which touched a political third rail by criticizing the Cambodian government’s handling of its border dispute with Vietnam. Kea Sokun was arrested Sept. 4 in Siem Reap province and also charged with incitement after authorities booked his wedding photography business for a pre-wedding photo shoot and took him into custody when he arrived, his brother Chheang Chhat told RFA last week. Chan Chamroeun, provincial coordinator for local rights group Adhoc, told RFA Tuesday that his organization is investigating the two cases and working to provide lawyers to defend the pair of rappers. He said that the two young men had simply sang songs reflective of current Cambodian social issues and had not breached any laws. “The authorities should have allowed for their freedom of expression—this freedom is important because it helps the government understand the concerns of the public,” he said. “The authorities should allow for constructive criticism so that the government can identify loopholes in the system and fix them.” Wave of arrests Last week, amid an ongoing wave of arrests of voices critical of Hun Sen’s leadership, Rhona Smith, the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on Cambodia, wrote in a Facebook post that “the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly are protected by international human rights norms and standards as well as by the Cambodian Constitution.” She urged authorities to ensure that those arrested are promptly tried and that their due process rights be fully respected. On Friday the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said it had documented the arrest of 24 human rights campaigners since popular labor leader Rong Chhun, the president of the Cambodian Confederation of Unions, was taken into custody July 31, including eight in September alone. While 13 were released after pledging to refrain from further rights activities, 12 remain in detention—most of whom face charges of “incitement to commit felony,” including three environmental activists. The wave of arrests come three years after opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) President Kem Sokha’s September 2017 arrest over an alleged plot to overthrow the government with the help of Washington. Cambodia’s Supreme Court banned his party in November that year for its supposed role in the scheme. The move to dissolve the CNRP marked the beginning of a wider crackdown by Hun Sen on the political opposition, NGOs, and the independent media that paved the way for his ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) to win all 125 seats in parliament in the country’s July 2018 general election. https://www.rfa.org/english/news/cambodia/rapper-09152020145758.html

  15. I've had bad experiences too, of course. But I put it down as a 'learning experience'. Now I know it's better to get to know a girl before barfining her rather than picking up an unknown in a bar while drunk. But I don't regret any of them.

  16. I'm saddened that information regarding the passing of a lovely person many of us knew well has invoked some negative response, this actually reflects back on the BM's who obviously never knew her though chose to make such ignorant comments. Krit was a fantastic enthusiastic lively person, turned her back on the bright life & started up a dress making business. In the last 4 years she took care of her sick mother until she died last month. Krit went downhill fast after that. The cause of death was listed as lung disease, a medical fact & not a personal opinion. Again, sleep well bright girl.

  17. LBs (and P4P in general) are like NFL football players. They have a good 5 years, some get in a decade. Very few go 15 years without warming the bench. This is a classic thread and good for a re-read.
