many were considered JSG, there were plans to throw suggestions open on here. But, in the end there simply wasn't enough time. and the great fear was that sister and her mate who has taken over the old Katty premises will simply open up again as Katty Bar. Then there would have been 2 Katty's in adjacent sois. Emmy had to move very quickly because she was trading in the new bar without a licence... Big no-no. Everybody knows Emmy in the LB world, the new name will soon be used and accepted. Actually i'll never understand why she didn't call the new bar...'Grunt's'.

Yep, it was well before my time so I was never fortunate enough to witness it personally, but basically what happened was that the boss would treat all he printers to a free "jolly up" to mark the end of summer, and the start of 6 months printing practically in the dark. The tradition faded away many years ago. When I was on the branch committee in the printing union (the NGA it was back in those days) we tried to keep the tradition in a way, and held charity events through the year so we could have a free Christmas dinner and drinks for retired members. This also faded out as the various unions merged through time, but it was quite a popular back then, The old fellas would have turned up by the dozen to enjoy a free afternoon of drink, and of course more important, a chance to catch up with their old colleagues and have a good old chin wag about the old days. Some of them used to somewhat overdo the drink, I remember several times daughters coming to pick up the elderly old dad, and finding him in the corner lying upside down behind the piano, totally sozzled!! Great days.

I think I have it now. Have not been tested but have many of the symptoms. Sore throat, cough, some body aches and pains, only mild fever right now and diarrhoea. No respiratory issues so far. Will just be quarantining at home for now as the symptoms so far are manageable. If things get worse will go to the hospital of course. Luckily a mate of mine went out and did some shopping for me which will keep me going for the time being.

When I was in town and was heading to Katty Bar, I always said " We are going to Emmys Bar " and so did/do all our staff . There was never a question like " Who's Bar " , everyone knew what we are talking about so it makes perfect sense to me.
