  1. I worked in factories in N.J. as a yute...the wind up was EXTREMELY common. In no way could I see it as endearment, they just loved fucking with ya. Frankly I always saw em as grown school yard bullies. Once, someone mistook pounds for gallons and the corn syrup tank overflowed, many of the guys manned the squeegees and Phil, a smiling but retarded janitor type guy was there too. The winders got him in the thick of it then swept his feet from under him landing him in about an inch of syrup on a concrete floor. They erupted in laughter as poor Phil struggled to try to get to hit feet. All these years later anyone tries to wind me up I create distance fast, no time for it.

  2. I don't worry too much about how much I spend in los. It's my annual holiday so I'm not counting the pennies. I usually take about twice what I actually spend. I don't see any point in leaving money in my bank account. The Government will take 40% of what I leave in inheritance tax when I die, so I reckon I'm only spending 60% of what I actually spend. So if I pay 100 Baht for a glass of red wine, I think of it as actually costing me 60 Baht, and the other 40 Baht would only have gone to the Government. I'd rather spend it in a lb bar. A glass of red wine at 100 Baht is still less than £3 at current exchange rates. A glass of wine in a London pub cost around twice that, and you don't have the nice lbs.

  3. dang, rough news. I think BB took that photo when I was there with her for a few days. I really hope it's not true, but I suspect it is I was just wondering the other day if Archie ever got together with her, seemed keen on her.

  4. Here in Australia its normal to wind a mate up and no one takes offence by it . I was in a bar in bkk once and friendly banter between me and another Aussie ( we didn't know each other ). After the other guy left with a cutie this German guy was in shock that we didn't get into a fight , I had to explain to him that is was all in fun ..He still didn't understand. Its just a cultural thing.

  5. I was under the impression it was on the 13th but was disappointed after reading this https://www.pattayamail.com/featured/kingdom-to-celebrate-romantic-loy-krathong-november-11-268335 that it's on the 11th.

  6. Looks interesting! Straight mate had great sex upstairs in the 555 short time room. Being new to Thailand he thought it was odd that some guy was getting a BJ at the bar. I don't think that normally happens at 555 though.

  7. 'Wind ups' or 'banter' is often the excuse used by bullies and racists.

  8. Changing Baht to USD (1 dollar bills): The best rate will be at Super Rich Thailand's main branch. The second nest rate will be at either Super Rich Thailand or Value Plus at the Rail Link in Swampy's basement. Super Rich's is stated hours at the Rail Link are from 6:00 to 23:00 and Value Plus from 6:00 to 23:50 but I wouldn't cut it too close. You will get very bad rates at Vasu and TT in Pattaya when changing baht to dollars. At SIA in Bangkok you will get a bad rate for 1's but an acceptable rate if for some reason you need 100's. There might be certain situations where you wouldn't want to carry singles. Maybe because it's too bulky. Maybe you think a certain businesses might be annoyed if you pay a big bill with singles. The middle ground is then to exchange baht to USD 20 dollar bills. Best rate again is Super Rich Thailand's main branch with their branch at the Rail Link and Value Plus offering an OK rate. ================================================================================= Bottom Line: There is usually no better place to do any USD currency transaction than at Super Rich Thailand's main branch (not open evenings or Sundays). If that is inconvenient changing dollars to baht is just fine at Vasu in Bangkok (not open evenings or Sundays) or at TT Exchange in Pattaya. If you need to change dollars to baht at Swampy do so at Super Rich Thailand or Value Plus at the Rail Link but don't change too much if you will have access to a better place the following day. Changing baht to dollars is fine at these two places at the Rail Link if getting to the main branch is too inconvenient. If you are arriving from the USA bring 100 dollar bills as new as possible.

  10. I guess some people have a problem with Nidcha but I go in from time to time. Katty Bar is a better place to just hang out IMO. I can go alone and likely end up chatting with some other guys. Nidcha, just for drinking, is probably better done with a group of guys. Last trip I did end up getting a few crazy/weird Russians on the baht buses coming back to Pattaya late night from Jomtien. Makes the trip home a bit less enjoyable on occasion. The USD, on the street, is still barely hanging in above 30. I've seen below 30 on the street before (first time 2008). But that is nothing compared to the mess the ₤ and € are in at the moment. I guess the dollar would have to be down around 25 for me to feel that pain.

  11. I believe you can still get a beer at Nidcha for 60 baht, but not everyone's cup of tea for sure

  12. That’s the bonus of Katty bar for me, it’s the kind of place I’d normally like to hang out in anyway, and the cheaper beer just adds to the experience. In more expensive bars I’d sometimes hesitate about having one more for the road, but at 60B I just drink till moving on calls.

  13. One of the topics many of us can relate to no doubt. “Example One: The wind-up. In some cultures, especially Australia and England, it is somewhat common to call people a “fucking cunt” as a friendly greeting or continually wind a person up with self jokes, insults, etc as a way of friendly banter. In other cultures, including a lot of America and Japan, this is NOT common. In fact, the word cunt is almost NEVER used in the states and most people tend not to wind each other up as much due to the lawsuit culture, threat of defamation of character, the public sensitivity issues, etc. This has taken me (And at times still taking) a lot of time to get used to. I’ve seen more than one fight here because someone is intending to simply give someone a friendly wind up and the other person takes it seriously and before you know it people come to blows. I personally don’t enjoy winding people or making fun of them but I understand why people do and to them, it is often a term of endearment vs. an actual insult. There are a lot of people here that will wind up others based on the country they are from. In most cases, it is harmless jokes and if I had one baht for every Donald Trump joke or comment over the last year I would be a rich man now.”
